About

Hey there. My name’s Dan Staines. I’m a games scholar and freelance writer currently living in Montreal, Canada.

I am currently employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Concordia University. My area of expertise is the use of videogames in moral education and development. I believe that videogames are uniquely suited to cultivating moral expertise and I’m interested in designing games for that purpose.

My work has appeared in Hyper, PC Powerplay, Official PlayStation Magazine, Official Xbox Magazine, Kotaku, IGN, GameSpy, and a few other places. I also edited a popular (and now sadly defunct) gaming blog named Eegra, as well as GBA World, PlayStation World, and Total Gamer magazines.

I also write and produce electronic music as a hobby. I’ve posted some of it here along with my publishing portfolio and selected journal articles. If you feel like it, give it a listen! I’d be curious to hear what you think.

Anyway, thanks for visiting! You are a cool person and I hope you have an excellent day.
